Hutchison and Perry compare each other to Democrats

Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison and Gov. Rick Perry’s campaigns both released new Web attack ads, using the images of Democratic politicians to make their points.

Hutchison’s campaign used the image of Bill White as a farce to paint Perry as not as conservative as he claims.

Perry campaign spokesman Mark Miner said that the video was just rhetoric from Hutchison.

“It’s just a video that is full of inaccuracies, which is very much like the way she has run her campaign,” Miner said. “It’s just factually incorrect.

“The Senator is the one in favor of sanctuary cities and has overseen record deficits and runaway spending in Washington,” Miner added.

The Perry campaign pointed toward a 2007 vote on a proposed amendment by Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., that would have required the completion of the 700-mile border fence before the bill went into effect. The amendment was defeated 54-42.

Meanwhile, Perry’s campaign released a sixth video in a series called “The 12 days of flip-flops.” The series, posted on Perry’s attack Web site, Washingtonkay.com, came after Hutchison’s campaign released a “12 days of cronyism” series about Perry on her campaign’s attack Web site, SlickRickPerry.com

The video starts with a clip of Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., saying that he voted for $87 billion in funding for the war in Iraq before he voted against it to lead into a video about Hutchison’s vote on appropriations bills.

Here is that video:

Hutchison campaign spokeswoman Jennifer Baker said that the video is misleading because Hutchison voted against the omnibus bill.

Hutchison voted for some spending provisions, Baker said, but opposed that they had been wrapped into an omnibus bill with several other spending bills that did not go to the floor alone.

“She voted to thwart the Democrats’ attempt to ram this spending bill through,” Baker said. “[Perry's campaign] confuses a lot of votes in Washington. It seems to happen a lot.”

UPDATE:

Baker said that Hutchison voted against the Coburn amendment because it did not provide for local input on the border fence.

“Senator Hutchison has repeatedly voted against sanctuary cities and in typical Rick Perry fashion he has done nothing,” Baker said. “Texas deserves a governor like Kay Bailey Hutchison who gets results instead of Rick Perry and his empty rhetoric.”
